Container stehen für Erfolg oder Misserfolg der Weltwirtschaft – leere Containerschiffe signalisieren einen Abschwung, volle Containerschiffe oder gar Orders für neue, noch größere Schiffe sind euphorisierende Bilder des Aufschwungs. Das Objekt selbst ist 2,44 Meter breit, 2,59 Meter hoch und 6,06 oder alternativ 12,192 Meter lang und seit 1956 das weltweit standardisierte Transportmodul. Dreißig Millionen von ihnen sind auf den Weltmeeren unterwegs. Jetzt fasziniert der Container auch die Architekten. Das NRW-Forum Düsseldorf fragte renommierte Architekten, Designer, Künstler aus aller Welt nach Entwürfen – und erhielt eine wahre Flut an Einreichungen: bereits realisierte Container Gebäude und neue Entwürfe, die speziell für die Ausstellung entworfen wurden: originell, praktikabel, fiktiv, sinnvoll, phantasievoll, minimalistisch, exotisch, pragmatisch, futuristisch. Zwei Dutzend dieser Entwürfe sind in der Ausstellung „Container Architektur“ als Modelle im großen Maßstab 1:5 nachgebaut – das höchste stößt durch die Decke des Museums. Die mehr als 100 Einreichungen laufen als Bildfries rund um die Ausstellungsräume. Ein Katalog begleitet die Ausstellung.

Mobile Pop Up Restaurant – Brussels
Starting at the end of March in Brussels, some very lucky individuals may have a chance to dine on the rooftops of some very impressive buildings. Electrolux, makers of all things for the household, is sponsoring a cool new pop up restaurant as it tours around Europe making stops on top of rooftops, cliffs, monuments and maybe even the middle of a lake. The energy efficient and lightweight Cube Pavilion, designed by Italian architects Park Associati, has a dining room for 18 and a huge outdoor terrace to take in the sights.
The Cube Pavilion is less of a cube and more of a pentagon that’s divided into an open and flexible dining area with a serving area and visible kitchen, all of which wraps around an over 500 square foot terrace. Conceived as a pop-up module that can easily be built up and taken down, the Cube can easily be transported by train, boat, truck or even helicopter to access more remote cliff-side locations.
Part of the exterior is covered in a aluminum skin that has been laser-cut to create a texture with a geometric design that covers the whole of the outer surface.

Im herzen von Kuala Lumpur, Hauptstadt von Malaysia befindet sich das 11 räumige Budget Hotel im urbanen Raum. Es wurden 20 Fuß Container zu zweckmäßigen aber doch sehr schönen Designappartements umgebaut. Auf ein eigenes Badezimmer muß man genausowenig verzichten, wie auf eine 24 h besetzte Rezeption. Das ist Super!

Leere Cargo Container werden als PopUp Restaurant, oder PopUp Hotel gebraucht, warum also nicht auch als PopUP Clinic? Besser noch, warum verschifft man diese Kliniken in Bereiche dieser Welt, in denen Kliniken gebraucht werden. Zum Bespiel nach Haiti! Das ist genau die Idee von Containers 2 Clinics (C2C) eine in Massachussets beheimatete nonprofit Organisation.
